Registration Evening for Fall Kids and Adult Soccer

 

Toronto Footy Sevens is hosting a registration night for our upcoming coed and men’s leagues at the new field at Heart Lake Secondary School as well as our Footy For All children’s soccer programs for ages 4-11. Although online registration is always available, some players and parents had asked about paying cash or registering in person and we will be hosting a registration evening on August 27th. Drop by any time between 6.30pm and 8pm and we’ll be available to answer questions, take cash or credit card registrations and provide you with any details you may need about the upcoming season.

Whether it is our adult rec soccer leagues, Footy For All kids soccer programs or renting the field, Ryan, will be available to answer any of your questions.

About our adult soccer leagues:

Our spring soccer leagues kick off in the first week of September and run through until the end of October. You can register a whole team for $750 or as an individual for only $85 for any of the 9-week leagues. All of the leagues are 7 vs 7, fully refereed and played on the brand new turf fields at Heart Lake Secondary School.

About our kids soccer programs:

Our fall program is designed to give 4-11 year-old kids a fun soccer experience with our great team of coaches. For parents it offers a simple, convenient youth soccer option at a great price. Over 200 kids joined us for spring and for summer at the new field and we’ll see many familiar faces returning for the third session of the year.

Our coaches will be working on skill development and refining technique for part of the session. However, our main focus is that the boys and girls in the program have fun and enjoy their soccer. No try-outs or kids left on the bench while the star players get all the playing time. We’ll treat all our players the same with a supportive environment and equal opportunity for all. Fall 2018 will be our 4th season of Footy For All programming at the new facility.

Fall Sessions begin the first week of September – Registration is now open

We will be running six week fall programs at the start of the school year. They are slightly shorter than the spring and summer sessions to make sure they finish before the weather starts to get too cold, and they will run from the beginning of September though until mid-October.

Fall 7v7 Soccer Leagues Start in 2 Weeks

We are just heading into the playoffs for our summer leagues and it is only two weeks until the start of our fall leagues!

Coed and Men’s Fall Leagues Start First Week of September

Whether you have a whole team looking to join our leagues, or want to sign up with a couple of friends or even just yourself, we have a space available in our fall leagues for you. There’s already almost 50 teams playing across our three league evenings and with new teams already signed up, we are looking to expand again as we go into our fall leagues.

Tuesday Coed and Thursday Men’s

The Tuesday Coed league and Thursday Men’s league will be kicking off the fall season on September 4th and 6th. Once again it will be 9-week, 7vs7 soccer leagues at Brampton’s only outdoor 7vs7 fields. The leagues are fully refereed on FIFA-grade turf fields separated by full length divider nets between the fields. There really is no better place to play.

Registration is now open and teams and individuals can lock-down their spot in on the Toronto Footy Sevens website. If you have a team to register, you don’t have to pay the full league fee immediately, all team spaces cost only $750+HST but you can register with just an initial $250 deposit.

If you want to sign up as an individual and be placed on a team, individual spaces cost just $85+HST.

Wednesday Men’s Fall League Starts September 12th

For those of you looking to start a little later in the fall, don’t forget we also have our Wednesday Men’s league coming up on September 12th.

Field Rentals and Kids Soccer

The field is also available to rent either as a full 11-a-side field or as the smaller 7vs7 fields. If you are looking for a cost-effective training field, with the best surface in the city, 7vs7 fields are available for only $60 per hour. E-mail chris@footysevens.com to rent.

We’ve also got our Footy For All kids programs available for boys and girls age 4-11. Another Championship for (Mo) Leicester

After crowning three division champions on Tuesday, it was the Thursday Men’s league that came to a close on Thursday with 4 excellent teams facing off in the top division’s semi-finals.

Mo Leicester City FC had topped the table at the end of the regular season. They proved too strong for an excellent Mahajir FC, taking heavy revenge on the only team to have beaten them this season and cruising into the final with a 6-1 victory. Blackstars had a great match-up with Colo-Colo earlier in the season and the two teams had tied for 2nd in the regular season so a close semi-final was expected. It certainly played out that way with the 1-1 half-time tie lasting well into the second half. Blackstars broke the tie with a fine goal before Colo Colo pegged them back again until two late goals sent Blackstars to the final at the end of a tight, physical and thoroughly entertaining game.

The final was an equally tight affair, with neither team able to break the deadlock before half-time. Nick Chiarot played a captain’s role, opening the scoring by rolling one in off the far post for Mo Leicester. The Blackstars were soon level though, pouncing on a rebound after a decent save from the goalie. The final seemed bound for penalties but Mo Leicester worked the ball to the top of the box to allow their target man to spin off his defender and score the decisive goal though the keeper’s legs. As Blackstars pushed for an equaliser they inevitably left some gaps at the back and an excellent counter attack sealed the game and the Championship for Mo Leicester City FC in the dying minutes.

In the second division it was AEFC who flew out of the blocks to take a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep that pace up and by the time half-time rolled around Fortnite had pulled the deficit back and added a couple more to lead 4-2 at the break. When Fortnite scored another double after half-time the game looked over but AE pulled a couple back to suggest that a comeback might just be possible. However, as happened in many of the finals, the team pushing forward to try to salvage the game were hit on the break and Fortnite took the second division title with a convincing 7-4 victory.

The summer season of our Thursday Men’s league starts next week and we still have a couple of team spaces available and a single individual space available for registration. You can find full details at the Toronto Footy Sevens website.

Tuesday Champions Round-Up

The Good Team – Tuesday Coed Champions

What was June’s game of the month? Spain vs Portugal? Germany vs Sweden? Argentina vs Nigeria? We have a different candidate for that accolade . . . Tuesday’s Coed League final between UKS United and The Good Team.

It was fitting that the top two team in the regular season made it to the final. UKS brought their regular season form onto the field straight away, quickly establishing a 2-0 first half lead. Even though they had dug themselves an early hole, The Good Team proved that they were indeed a  . . .ehm . . . “good team” by dragging themselves back into the game with a couple of goals to go into the break tied at 2-2.

It looked like a name change may be in order (perhaps “The Great Team”?) when they reversed the deficit just after half time to lead 4-2. UKS weren’t finished though. and pulled it back to 4-3 before The Good Team restored their cushion. UKS drew closer again before the big guns came out. The equaliser was a rocket from 20-yards, tying the game at 5-5 before The Good Team pulled out their own long-range artillery with another screamer to re-take the lead.

With the clock against them, UKS United pushed forward desperately looking for the equaliser but, as so often happens, were caught on the break with a killer counter-attack. A late goal pulled it back to 7-6 as time ran out, but the final whistle came before they could muster an equaliser and a classic final drew to a close with The Good Team crowned Spring Coed Champions. What. . . A. . . Game!

The Coed Division Two final didn’t quite have the same end to end magic but was an excellent game too. Pitch Please! made the early running and took the lead before being pegged back by The Misfits. Another couple of goals had Pitch Please cruising towards victory with a 3-1 lead,  only to be rocked by The Misfits pulling one bag to narrow their lead to one. Just like the division 1 final, the game went from end to end as the Misfits chased the game and both tems had their chances. Eventually though, it was Pitch Please! who took their chances to tie-up the division championship with a 5-2 scoreline.

All four of our finalists will be back to try to defend their title (or go one better) in the summer season. There are already 17 teams signed up to start next week, but we can still fit in another handful of teams (or individual sign-ups). Pitch Please!- Tuesday Coed Div 2 Champions

Tuesday Men’s League Final

The World Cup enters the knock-out stage and brings with it the nerve-shredding tension of penalty shoot-outs. We had one of our own last night with the Tuesday Men’s league final matching all of the late drama we’ve seen in so many games in this World Cup.

Mean Machine were off and running with an early goal, but couldn’t keep it for long against an always potent United Brothers forward line. The teams went into the break locked at 1-1 and neither team managed to add to their lead as the game clock ticked towards the end of the match. The breakthough finally came when Mean Machine looked to have won it in the final minutes, but United Brothers weren’t quite done yet, sending the game to penalty kicks with a late, late equaliser.

As always the shoot-out was a tense affair, with both goalkeepers making some magnificent saves. However it was Mean Machine that triumphed in the end to take the title and derail United Brothers quest to become the first two-time Toronto Footy Sevens champions.

Worst Dive Ever? Spare a thought for the ref!

BBC Sport highlighted this incredible dive during a Chilean Primera Division game, and it really is something to see. We can’t think of ever having seen many more blatant or ridiculous dives than this.

That being said, when you see it from the other angle (about 0:50 on the clip), you can see why the referee could have been taken in by it. From the angle the ref would have been looking at it, the movement of the defenders leg behind the diving forward could easily have been mistaken for a foul, especially at full speed without the benefit of multiple angles and slow motion.

It just shows how tough a job referees have. So the next time you are playing and can’t believe that a ref missed or called something that was really clear to you . . . cut them some slack, it may look completely different from their angle!
